OHV Safety and Education Trailer-Overview
OPRD recognizes that the message to ride safely and responsibly on an OHV needs to reach more Oregonians.

In 2004, OPRD developed the concept for a safety-focused display that would target youth and appeal to the broader OHV community. The display would be used in a variety of conditions—indoors, outdoors, at events in remote areas and in all weather conditions. The display also needed to be easily transported to events and require minimal setup. A trailer that the display could be housed in or stored in became the favored concept, and was designed, built and ready to roll by Spring 2005.

The goal of the OHV safety and education trailer is to increase the awareness of OHV users and non-users on safe and responsible recreation. The messages will dispel common misconceptions about OHV recreation with non-users; increase the awareness of user’s individual impacts on others; increase the awareness of user’s impact on the environment; and increase user’s awareness of the importance of safety classes and personal safety equipment. These messages are tailored mostly for Class I and III ATVs due to available safety training for these classes. However, many of the messages are universal and apply to all classes of OHVs

The trailer has all classes of ATVs on display, representing different types and sizes of OHVs. A Class II ATV, a side x side (Polaris RZR), has recently been added  Mannequins outfitted in appropriate safety equipment and on appropriate size machines accompany the vehicles.

OPRD staff take the trailer to events that bring in the general public such as county and state fairs; OHV user events such as Poker runs, cross-over events such as Outdoor Shows, where OHVs are used in other activities; and school presentations by OPRD staff or law enforcement agencies.

The OHV safety and education trailer is a product of the combined efforts of OPRD and several sponsors from the OHV community, including:

NOHVCC Adventure Trail
This is one of the Adenture Trail Panels in the OHV Safety & Education Trailer.

The Adventure Trail delivers the safe and responsible OHV operation message for OPRD.  This is an an example of the first panel.  There are ten panels in all.  The National Off-Highway Vehicle Conservation Council (NOHVCC) developed the Adventure Trail to educate children on OHV safety and ethical OHV operation. NOHVCC is a publicly supported, educational foundation organized for the sole purpose of promoting safe, responsible, family oriented off-highway recreational experiences. They are a forum for organizations and supporters of OHV recreation, including OHV manufacturers, related businesses, affiliated foundations, OHV dealers, clubs and enthusiasts, to become partners in creating a positive future for the sport.  To find out more about NOHVCC, click here.

The NOHVCC Adventure Trail requires children (and those young at heart) to complete a quiz
on OHV safety and sustainable operation.
